The Sundial Bridge, designed by Santiago Calatrava, spans 700 feet across the Sacramento River in Redding, California. The huge pylon on our cover is 217 feet tall, that’s roughly 20 stories. Nearly a mile of cables are stretched to support the bridge, which has no right angles and no parallel lines. In April 2005, Time magazine named Calatrava one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
