(ICAK-USA) held an awards ceremony for the second annual George J.

in Applied Kinesiology (AK) at Logan College of Chiropractic. Mary

Standard Process, Inc. In addition to the scholarship award, Standard
Process has invited Ms. Harpell to visit the Standard Process farm
and manufacturing plant in Palmyra, Wisconsin. The award ceremony for
Ms. Harpell was held on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Logan College.
The scholarship winner, Ms. Harpell, is currently the Logan AK Club Vice President
and is actively recruiting new members. Additionally, she has completed over
300 hours of AK seminars and is working to complete more. Ms. Harpell is a
ninth-trimester student at Logan College of Chiropractic.
The George J. Goodheart Scholarship in AK is a newly established program to
help further the advancement of the scientific foundation of Chiropractic,
alternative health care, and Applied Kinesiology. The scholarships are awarded
at various schools, and each is hosted by a different sponsor. The Southern
California University of Health Services (SCUHS) sponsor, Metagenics, Inc.,
was founded in 1983 and is the leading developer of natural, science-based
nutriceuticals. Their mission is to help patients "achieve their genetic
potential through targeted nutrition." For more information on Metagenics,
visit their website at www.metagenics.com.
The scholarship's namesake, Dr. George Goodheart, a chiropractor, developed
a new system of evaluation in chiropractic during the 1960s. He found that
assessment of normal and abnormal body function could be accomplished by using
muscle tests. Since the original discovery, the use of muscle testing has been
applied to over 30 different therapeutic systems to evaluate which therapy
is appropriate for each patient. This system is called "applied kinesiology" or
AK. Dr. Goodheart has annually published his observations since 1964 and regularly
produces audio tapes with current information. He has published You'll
Be Better, The Story of Applied Kinesiology, which describes his contribution
to AK. Dr. Goodheart was the first chiropractor to be officially appointed
to the Sports Medicine Modalities Committee of the US Olympic Committee, and
he served at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, as well as the first ICAK-USA
Research Director, a position he retains today.
